Helene has now been upgraded to a CAT 1 hurricane and is expected to make landfall in the big bend area tomorrow as a CAT 4. The path of the storm remains largely unchanged. Walton County continues to be on the edge of the track of this event and we are currently expecting tropical force winds and heavy rain from 2pm until about Midnight tomorrow with the storm being out of our area completely by Friday morning.
Walton County is currently under a tropical storm warning, which means winds exceeding 34mph are expected within 36 hours.
At this time, Walton County schools will continue with the planned closure of all campuses on Thursday, September 26th and reopen on Friday, September 27th. We continue to collaborate with local, state, and national weather authorities and will update you as information becomes available.
