📚 Exploring History Through Literature and Culture! 📚 After finishing their class novel The Red Umbrella by Christina Diaz Gonzalez, Ms. Johnson's 7th grade ELA students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the social and historical context of the story. Set against the backdrop of the Communist Revolution in Cuba, the novel follows two siblings who become part of Project Pedro Pan, a mission to evacuate children from Cuba to America. As part of their final AVID One Pager project, students explored the physical, historical, and social settings of the book. To enhance their understanding—and to bring a bit of Cuban culture to life—they enjoyed traditional flan, “gusanos” (gummy worms symbolizing the anti-revolutionary term), and yuca flour avocado chips. This hands-on experience allowed them to connect more deeply with the novel’s themes while having some fun with cultural exploration. We are so proud of our students for diving into literature with curiosity and creativity! #FMSBulldogs

Here’s the lineup: *Monday: Boys Basketball travels to ECMS to face off at 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM. *Tuesday: Boys and Girls Soccer host ECMS at 5:30 PM and 6:45 PM at the old FMS soccer field at the Freeport Learning Center. *Tuesday: Boys and Girls Basketball head to Rocky Bayou for games at 5 PM, 6 PM, and 7 PM. *Wednesday: Boys and Girls Basketball travel to Seaside to play at 5 PM, 6 PM, and 7 PM.
