Paxton High School Introduction to Aerospace students put their aerospace knowledge to the test as they designed a shoebox glider and presented their designs to NASA via a series of videoconferences. Via NASA's Digital Learning Network, students received valuable instruction and feedback on their designs.

Thank you to the Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association for the $1,000 ACELLerator grant awarded to Paxton teacher Heather Stewart.  The grant money will be used to  purchase SeaPerch robots for Ms. Stewart's aerospace classes to teach engineering and robotics.

It was all smiles in the SWHS Media Center on Thursday, November 12th as Belle Waldrop and Christian Friis signed letters of commitment to continue their athletic careers at Division 1 schools.  Belle will play volleyball for Troy University and Christian will compete in track and field for Duke University!  Congratulations Seahawks!

Paxton High School’s Gaetz Aerospace Institute at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University students recently visited the flight line at Eglin Air Force Base where they benefitted from instruction from test pilots from the 40th Flight Test Squadron, led by Captain David Levene. Students wrapped up the day with an engineer’s tour of the Air Force Armament Museum, led by Dr. John Fay of the Air Force Research Laboratory. A huge thank you from the students goes out to the Northwest Florida chapter of the Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics for providing financial and logistical support of the trip.

Mossy Head School hosted a Veterans' Day program on November 10th to honor  past and present military service men and women. Fifth grade students performed patriotic songs for the crowd of students, parents, veterans, and staff. Fourth grade students Lyndsey Wright and Akadian Campbell performed a skit called "What is a Veteran?" The attendees also had the privilege of listening to veteran Sgt. L'Orange tell about his service in the military. MHS would like to say, "Thank you to all veterans for their service!"

On Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015, Walton Middle School proudly welcomed nearly 350 people to its first ever Title 1 meeting and science-themed parent training night.  After a FREE family pizza dinner from Hungry Howie's, parents and students rotated between three science-themed stations for hands-on experiments and educational take-aways to enhance learning at home.  Parents and students learned how to excel at science fair projects, how to develop stronger science vocabularies, and how to build and launch hand-made rockets with simple chemical reactions.  Thanks to the WMS Science Club, Nonie's Ark entertained young children in the childcare center with hands-on, live animal encounters. Families also enjoyed taking photos in the superhero-themed photo booth throughout the night, snagging pictures with characters from the elite Star Wars 501st Legion.  WHS Anchor and Key Club members also assisted in each station throughout the evening.  Over half of the teachers at WMS donated their time and energy to make the event an overwhelming and amazing success.

WMS anticipates even better participation for its upcoming "Making Math Matter" parent training night on December 3rd from 6:00-8:00.  Math will come alive as families come together at Walton Middle School.

The two will run at the state meet on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Tallahassee.

Last week students in Mrs. Shubert's 2nd grade class participated in Book Talk presentations. Each student chose a fictional character to portray as they recounted their book for the class.  Grayson Booker chose the book "Dragons love Tacos". He dressed up like the Dragon and brought in a taco prop. He enthused the class with his descriptive language and narrative details.  Grayson set the bar high for the remaining presenters.  Excellent Job Grayson!
