FES Kindergarteners Become Doctors to Fix Sick Words

We need a doctor STAT! Today we had some sick words in our room that were missing their vowels. We performed vowel surgery! All doctors successfully performed surgery and saved their patients! Submitted by Mrs. Ford/FB.

Literacy Week Inspires WDE 5th Graders

Mrs. Hope Allen's 5th grade class made five hundred thirty 100s on AR tests in less than one month! Literacy Week inspired the students, but the motivation to read more and take more tests continued. Submitted by Debbie Bush/Jessica Dawkins.
ECMS Represents WCSD Finishing 1st at Invitational

Congratulations to both the boys’ and girls’ ECMS track teams for finishing 1st at the Jesse Forbes Invitational track meet in Tallahassee last week. Twenty-four athletes qualified for the Middle School State meet in Bradenton, Florida in May. Way to go Stingrays! Submitted by Angela Vance.
WDE Students Learn How to Choose a Great Chapter Book

The Media Specialist at WDE, Mrs. Goodman, spoke to several third grade classes about choosing a great chapter book. Authors, genres, reading levels, and topics that were interesting to the students were discussed. Third grade teachers are working with students to build their reading stamina! 2nd graders at West DeFuniak Elementary participated in planting potatoes in a grade level garden on Wednesday, March 1st. The students were able to individually plant their own potatoes. Students learned that potatoes are usually planted first in a spring garden and what the criteria is for planting potatoes. The students had a blast working in the garden and getting a little dirty! WHS Student Selected as Finalist in Scholarship Program

Congratulations to WHS student Josh Homza, who was selected as a finalist in the Flying Musicians Association solo scholarship program! He will receive a free student membership in the Flying Musicians Association. Winners for the scholarship will be announced on May 1.

Veterinarian Visits FMS Fifth Grade Science Classes

Last week, Mrs. Pryor's fifth grade science class at Freeport Middle School was visited by Dr. Dara Johns from Parkway Veterinary Hospital in Niceville, Fl. Dr. Johns spoke to the students about the importance of making good grades, working hard, careers, colleges, and gave the students some great studying tips. She also brought in many models and handouts to interact with the students. She covered many veterinarian topics including heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, animal teeth, radiology, medicine, types of animals, infections, and answered many of the students' questions.
