WDE to the Ranch!

May 17, 2019

Second graders at WDE recently took a field trip to the Rocking B-A-B Ranch in DeFuniak Springs. Students were able to learn interesting facts about both common farm animals and exotic animals at the ranch. Students really enjoyed being able to pet the young animals and were excited about getting to play, ride the train, and eat their lunch in the Big Barn! Submitted by Jessica Dawkins

Students at West DeFuniak have been reading all year long.!
We had a total of 414 students receive an AR shirt this year. We are so proud of their reading achievements. We know that when students read that they learn new vocabulary words, improve their comprehension skills, and they develop their imaginations. Way to go, students and keep reading this summer!!!!!! Van R. Butler Elementary students recently participated in a bicycle and pedestrian safety lesson as an outgrowth of the University of Florida - FL Safe Routes to School training our district offered to Elementary PE Teachers. They had a great day of learning how to stay safe on bikes and when walking to and from school.

They followed up with approximately 100 students participating in a school "Bike to School Day". Safe Routes to School trainer, Caitlin Cerame, was present and lead a group bike ride to school from Topsail State Park. It was a great day of safe bicycle riding!
