5th grade students at WDE celebrated great behavior for the 1st nine weeks team time at Hurricane Lanes. Students enjoyed a couple hours of bowling and lunch as reward for maintaining an E or S for behavior during the first nine weeks period. The students were having so much fun that a few of the teachers had to join in!  Submitted by Jessica Dawson

Paxton High School’s Aerospace Career Academy students put their knowledge of air foils, or wings, to work this week with the help of Dr. John Fay, an aerospace engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base. Dr. Fay taught the students how to test different wing designs, including adjusting weight, balance, and angle of attack. A huge thank you to Dr. Fay for volunteering his time!  Submitted by Kalli McMillan and Heather Stewart

A habit of attendance is a school readiness skill: An important role of early education programs is helping children to develop important social-emotional skills, including forming a habit of attendance. Children who are chronically absent in preschool are far more likely to be chronically absent in later grades.  For more information on how to assist your child to improve his/her attendance, please visit https://www.attendanceworks.org/take-action/community-and-agency-partners/parents-and-parent-organizations/

MSE’s third graders are participating in the "Grasses in Classes" program, which gives students a direct role in the restoration of Choctawhatchee Bay. These students are learning about brackish water, snodgrass, and water pollution in the bay. This is a year-long project that will culminate in the students planting the grass they have tended along the shore of Choctawhatchee Bay.  submitted by Krisy Spence

Family Pumpkin Patch at MSE!

October 17, 2018

MSE families have been busy decorating pumpkins for the annual pumpkin patch at Maude Saunders.  It’s always fun to see the creative ideas our students and families come up with!  Family engagement is an important goal at Maude Saunders, and we love to see our families get involved in school activities. All across our county, our students, administrators, faculty, and families are doing what we can to help our neighboring counties as they struggle to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Michael.  One of those efforts is our "Stuff the Van" campaign at all WCSD High Schools. School Buses are stationed outside each of our 4 high schools ready to accept donations during regular school hours, or approximately 7:00 am until 3:30 pm each school day, for as long as there is a need.  Buses will transport relief supplies to affected areas as they fill up, and will come back to reload!  Please help us fill the buses to the ceiling to show our caring and concern for our neighbors to the east!!!

Batteries and Flashlights are in great need, in addition to the items listed in the pictures below!
