It was another successful Trick or Trunk at PHS. Students, parents, and community members were greeted with students and teachers, who were dressed up in amazing costumes and giving out lots of candies. It was an EPIC night for all!
Freeport Middle School art students collaborated with Senor Jackson's beginning Spanish students to create Dia de los Murertos ofrenda to display their calavera and calacas sculptures and their travel brochures. Way to go art and spanish students!!
MSE’s fifth graders presented a Vocabulary Parade for the school today. Each student selected a word to represent visually, and provided the definition. The audience enjoyed the presentation and learned at least 100 new words today!
Superintendent Hughes stopped in at Mossy Head School to check on ALL the Super Heroes on the loose on Halloween, while amazing instruction and student interaction is happening in EPIC3 Fashion. It really is “SCARY” to see how “SPOOKTACULAR” our teachers, students, teachers and staff are in the WCSD!

"It was many and many a year ago, / In a kingdom by the sea, / That a maiden there lived whom you may know / By the name of ANNABEL LEE." ~ "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allen Poe
It was not many and many a year ago (just Halloween 2019), in a classroom at Walton Middle School, that two teachers there taught whom you may know, by the names of Mr. Brendon Murphy and Mrs. Rachel Jones.
It is no secret that middle school students over-indulge in sugary treats and are overly excited the day of Halloween. Knowing this, sixth grade ELA teachers Mrs. Jones and Mr. Murphy decided to creatively join forces, designing and co-teaching a close and careful reading of the complex text "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allen Poe--the perfect poem for October 31st. The teachers combined classes in Mrs. Jones' room and took turns guiding students' understanding of the poem's theme with text dependent questions and tasks. The teachers even incorporated whole brain teaching techniques to help students understand internal and external conflicts operating in the poem. Though the room was full, students worked hard to understand the mystical, somber poem's key ideas and details and the author's craft and structure through his use of repetition and rhyme.
Clearly, Mrs. Jones and Mr. Murphy love their profession with "a love that was more than love," to quote Poe. Working together, the teachers and their students all exhibited WMS' "we, not me" spirit in this creative and engaging lesson.
Pre-K students from the WISE Center got a jump-start on trick-or-treating at WHS Thursday morning! Students went by the front office, where they were given Halloween candy. Then they made their way to the cafeteria, where they were (of course) given MORE candy!
Shout-out to Mrs. Zodrow's early childhood students and Key Club for making this event a memorable experience for these children.
The Freeport Middle School Art Department enjoyed a "virtual tour" of Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida today. The students learned about the accelerated programs, the entertainment, media, arts, and technology programs, and the alumni that have influenced these industries. Thank you Madison Bernstein, Outreach Project Manager at Full Sail University for the cool sunglasses and brochures. We want to go to Full Sail University!!
