School of Excellence!

October 20, 2017

Van R. Butler Elementary School has been named a “School of Excellence” by the Florida State Board of Education. 

To be eligible, schools had to receive a grade of A or B in each of the most recent three school years (2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17) and had to rank at the 80th percentile or higher for their school stype for at least two of the last three years. There are 347 elementary, 116 middle, 96 high, and 84 combination schools that qualified as schools of excellence. Qualifying schools shall retain the designation for up to three years. 

Butler Elementary is one of five Walton County Schools, and the only elementary school in the district to earn this designation.

Mrs. Woods' class

October 13, 2017

Students in Mrs. Wood's 3rd grade participated in their first Grasses in Classes session this month with the help of the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance. Students learned about challenges with pollution faced by our local watershed and potted Smooth Cordgrass plants which they will plant in the Bay this spring to help filter out pullution and provide a better habitat for wildlife.

On Thursday, October 5th the Van R. Butler Chorus visited Grand Blvd. Health and Rehab in Miramar Beach. We sang Patriotic, Fall, and Spooky Music for the residents. It really brightened their day and ours!!! 

Fire Safety Week

Kindergarten students at Butler Elementary were honored to have the South Walton Fire Department visit the school and share information about fire safety with them.  Ms. Stephens class created a thank you banner to show their appreciation to these community helpers!

Red Ribbon Week!

New Playground!

Butler Elementary students are thrilled to have a beautiful new playground!  The school’s PTO recently completed the purchase of this exciting new equipment!

These are a few pictures of one of our Science experiments. We made SLIME! We used Elmer's glue, foam shaving cream, saline solution and glitter. It was quite messy but they had so much fun! Look at the smile on their faces!
